Fundamentally cancer describes uncontrolled development from cells, the building blocks from a human body. What’re the building blocks of a body? As a concrete construction is made of bricks wrapped together, a living body is composed of numerous microscopic units called cells. These cells are what comprise the constituent elements of a living being. Cells are identified on the basis of their location and or function. Skin tissues, bone tissues, blood tissues, muscle tissues, tissues of the stomach, bodily hormone secreting cells, neurons are just a few types of cells. Specific type of cells are responsible for controlling one or more functions/systems in the body.
Under normal conditions, all cells are programmed to undergo defined phases of multiplication, growth, function and death. Their multiplication is controlled so an optimal number of a certain type of cells is maintained. Cells less than the optimal number reveal reduced purpose. Cells substantially more than the best number show increased prevalence of the corresponding purpose. What occurs when cells deviate from their regular behavior and forget to perish? Sometimes, basic changes in cells leave them incapable of dying. Such abnormal tissues become immortal and continue to multiply giving rise to countless their own kind though the human body does not need them.
A lot of abnormal tissues forms lesions, nodular formations or other abnormal growths in or on the body. Tumor is the general term used to refer to these abnormal growths. NOT ALL TUMORS ARE CANCEROUS. Tumors can be benign or malignant. Unlike cancerous growths, benign tumors have been quite passive and limited in the development. Moles are probably the most typical samples of benign tumors which can affect any part of the human body at any moment. Some benign tumors have the potential from becoming cancerous if left untreated. Polyp development in the colon, for example, might progress to colorectal cancer if it isn’t treated.
Malignant tumors have been abnormal growths that give rise to cancer. Unrestricted development of cancerous tumors releases some cancerous cells in supply of blood. They circulate throughout the human body and lodge themselves in other parts giving rise to secondary malignant tumors. Spread of cancerous cells through supply of blood is called metastasis. Though cancer can affect anyone at any age, some individuals belonging to certain age groups, gene pool, ethnic backgrounds, lifestyle patterns and or gender have been observed to be more susceptible to particular types of cancers. Women with family history from breast cancer have been more at risk to develop the disease. Older men are more vulnerable to prostate cancer glands. Understand that people falling within none of the high risk category have been NOT guaranteed against development of cancer. Unless of course the cancer is gender specific, cancer may affect any individual.
